I had been looking forward to Gretchen Felker-Martin’s CUCKOO since it was announced, and I’m thrilled to be a part of its audiobook multicast!
Queer horror is my happy place, and this book certainly delivers. As a Millennial, it also felt nostalgic to me — a large part of the story takes place in 1995, featuring teenagers who are conspicuously free of mobile phones. Alternating point of view sections invite the listener into each character’s perspective, which also helps keep up the pace of the plot. So even though it takes a while to get to the [satisfying!] conclusion, it never feels like a slow-burn; every scene is interesting or exciting.
My fellow narrators for this title are: Amy Landon, Avi Roque, Grace Rolek, Kirt Graves, Sena Bryer, Torian Brackett, and Zim Avaltrades. I play Shelby, an adopted Korean-American Trans girl — just my luck that my excitement for this title had a role for me!
Many thanks to team Macmillan for several Queer horror titles, and to Steve Wagner for producing this one!
