AUDIOBOOK RELEASE: Deadly Hearts
Middle-grade historical non-fiction about some of the deadliest people of all time.
Hello, Friends!
DEADLY HEARTS: HISTORY’S MOST DANGEROUS PEOPLE is my first middle-grade book and the first book I recorded in-studio as opposed to my home studio. It was a lot of fun, despite its subject matter. I’ve an interest in the darkness and inhumanity of people, perhaps from being so bullied in my childhood or from facing discrimination for my identity… I originally went to university to become a criminologist. I wanted to understand why people willingly cause harm to others.
Conquest for power, control, wealth, sometimes fueled by hatred and fear, other times by the megalomaniac belief that one is “chosen by god” are all traits that the most deadly people in this book have in common.
Even though the book sticks to reporting rather than speculating or philosophizing, I love how cheeky the title is: to combine the conflicting notions of being deadly and having a “heart.”
From Alexander the Great to Pol Pot, the real-life nightmares in the book are appropriately generalized for a middle-grade audience without being euphemised out of their impact. If the deadliness in history’s notorious people also interest you, this will be an enjoyable (?) listen.
