I had such an amazing time directing GLITCH GIRL, by Rainie Oet. Rainie narrated her own book, and she was such a natural. She brought her own words to life with authenticity, humor, and vulnerability. It’s so satisfying hearing how connected an author is to their work.
Inspired by real-life events, GLITCH GIRL follows the protagonist, J—, through 5th-7th grade, as they navigate a neurotypical, cisgender world as a young person growing up with ADHD and an expansive sense of their gender. The story is earnest and relatable …and in verse! Which I love as a literary format for J—’s story: emotional, atypical, intimate. Each poem acts as a chapter in the novel, combining both narrative and emotional concentration; the listener gets to experience the intensity and whimsy of J—’s point of view in a way that feels honest and personal. I hope readers enjoy listening to the audiobook as much as I enjoyed directing it.
GLITCH GIRL is narrated by Rainie Oet, with additional Narration by Jeff Ebner. Many thanks to Olivia Langen and PRH Audio for this title. Additional thanks to Kirby Crosbie, and engineers Rick, Tucker, and Ben.
