LAST CHANCE CHICAGO, by Diana DiGangi, is a legal mystery/thriller with a second-chance Queer romance that was great fun to narrate — a blend of some of my favorite genres. I love to read both sides of romantic and sexual tension, and I love how this story weaves it into a legal thriller.
Sam, the main character, has attitude, humor, and charisma, and in donning a New York dialect to play her, I was so inspired by Natasha Lyonne that every time I voiced Sam’s dialogue, I found myself holding my tablet stylus like a cigarette. 😅
This book is DiGangi’s first, and she’s an excellent writer. Her background is in investigative journalism, and the book’s characters and plot are informed by that experience — it feels authentic in both heart and smart, and y’all know how that’s my jam!
The big courtroom scene (no spoilers, but hey, it’s a legal thriller!) in particular was so much fun to read! I’d been anxious about it at first because it has a lot of characters, and is a big important scene I really wanted to get right, but it ended up being my favorite section to work on. I hope you find it as exciting, and at times — hilarious! — as I did!
Thanks to Brandy Lawrence and the Tantor Media Team for inviting me to narrate this!
