AUDIOBOOK RELEASE: Tell Me I'm Worthless
A (very) dark Queer horror story -- and Nicky is British!
Hello, Friends!
I am chuffed to bits to share a dream-come-true: I finally got to narrate a full length book being entirely British! And, not only that, but a very dark* Queer horror story! 😱 TELL ME I’M WORTHLESS is a wild, twisted tale featuring a haunted house… but it is as much about being haunted by real-world trauma as much as it is about a haunting.

So… I LOVED doing it. 😅
I don’t know what it is about capital-D Darkness that enthralls me, but maybe it has something to do with the theory about how Queer folks love horror or how women/femmes love true crime: our everyday existence is too often the target for violence, fear, and hatred that stories about killers and persecution and trauma just kind of… resonate with us? Like, in a weirdly sympathetic way that makes us feel less alone in the low-key horror that is too-often intrinsic to our lived experience?
TELL ME I’M WORTHLESS contains pretty much all of those things; and with a metaphor/meditation on fascism, becomes a trippy fever-dream of a ride. This book is not for everyone, but it’s good! And worth discussing. I agree with the following reviews:
“A triumph of transgressive queer horror.” —Publishers Weekly, STARRED review
“A gripping, hallucinogenic haunted house novel as righteously angry as it is horrifying, Tell Me I’m Worthless unflinchingly lays bare the personal and cultural scars we wear, endure, and inflict.” —Paul Tremblay, author of The Cabin at the End of the World and The Pallbearers Club
“A sharp and visceral novel which bends the horror genre to its will. Tell Me I’m Worthless holds a gruesome mirror up to the way it feels to live now. I absolutely tore through this book” —Julia Armfield, author of Salt Slow and Our Wives Under the Sea
And most interestingly — err, most terrifyingly — TELL ME I’M WORTHLESS captures the current, real-world anxiety happening all over the world, as far-right ideology, fear-mongering disinformation, and hateful rhetoric grow louder in both government and mainstream culture. In this sense, TELL ME I’M WORTHLESS is as much of a fictional nightmare as it is a practical real-world piece of art asking us to consider the actual problems in the world that inspired such a nightmare to be written.
Give it a listen. If not for the facism, trauma, and violence, at least listen for me doing a British accent for hours on end. 🤭
