AUDIOBOOK RELEASE: Toward Eternity
A gorgeous, philosophical sci-fi that explores what makes us human
TOWARD ETERNITY by Anton Hur is one of my favorite and most beloved books. It captured both my heart and my mind in equal measure, and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it. I love the characters I get to narrate; I feel very close to each of them.
This is one of those sci-fi stories that resonates beyond the page, and says so much in language that feels beyond words. It’s intimate and grand, straightforward yet deep, a fun read but also an affecting one.
Similar in vibe to Arrival, Cloud Atlas, even a few episodes of Black Mirror… I cite film and television here because it has a cinematic quality — it feels visual, inhabited, like it has a musical score, episodes. It’d make a great limited series! Just saying!
Anton Hur is a renowned translator and in this, his first novel, he really gets to show his many talents. TOWARD ETERNITY feels richly informed by a mind that loves the diversity of culture in the world, and has meditated on the relationship of language and thought. This book feels deeply human — which is my favorite kind of science fiction! I love sci-fi that explores our relationship to technology, and this book explores not just machine and A.I. tech, but the technology of language itself, and where the boundaries are between human and non-human.
TOWARD ETERNITY is narrated by: David Lee Huynh, Zoleka Vundla, Katherine Littrell, and me. (I do Part Three!)
