DOUBLE AUDIOBOOK RELEASE: El Deafo, House Party
Two YA titles from Penguin Random House Audio
EL DEAFO, by Cece Bell, is a charming graphic novel inspired by Bell’s childhood as a deaf kid growing up in the 1970s. Her hearing aid, the then-new Sonic Ear, inspires her to develop a superhero alter ego: El Deafo. The book explores Cece’s school-age years and friendships, and her navigating an abelist, hearing world. I’m so happy to get to play a bunch of different characters in this audiobook, produced by Matie Argiropoulos & Penguin Random House Audio, directed by Sean Runnette, and edited by Tom Croke.
HOUSE PARTY is a collection of short stories from different perspectives of young folx living it up at an epic party before they graduate high school. I read the story of Savoy, the Influencer, by Ryan LaSala. It’s a humorous, heartfelt, and — if I may say — a downright cinematic piece full of drama and eleganza. Produced by Amber Beard & Penguin Random House Audio, directed by Melisa D. Monts, and edited by David Lopez.
